Kellen Bachman is a Partner and the Head of Client Experience at ApricotLaw.
Kellen grew up in Colorado, where he spent most of his time outdoors, far away from the internet and computers. He spent the first decade of his adult life making a living with his hands, never considering a “desk job” as a realistic path. Kellen didn’t realize it at the time, but both of his parents returning to school as adults had a major impact on his life. Now a father himself, Kellen often reflects on his own father doing calculus homework in the family Suburban during soccer practices and games.
“I still recall a conversation I had with my mother like it was yesterday. We were talking about Jeremy Bloom, an Olympic downhill skier and professional football player from Colorado. He was deciding whether to train for the Olympics or go to college. His mother was quoted in the paper saying, ‘You can always go back to school; you can’t always go back to be an Olympian.’ My mother felt the same way, and both my parents encouraged me to find myself in the way that was best for me.”
Kellen took a very long path to college and ultimately earned a business degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He spent years at the local community college before attending Regis, and those were the most impactful years of his college experience. It was during community college that Kellen learned he had to outwork his intelligence. He realized he had to work harder than other students to succeed. Working smarter did not play to his strengths at the time.
This work ethic carried over to his professional life, where he worked in call centers, factories, kitchens, and office buildings all over the country.
Kellen met his wife, Ashlynne, at a dog park in Fort Collins, CO.
“On the day we met, I was talking to a friend I saw occasionally back then, watching my dog play. Then I saw her. With one look, I was compelled to meet her. We chatted about all kinds of things and exchanged numbers. My friend said as I was leaving, ‘You got her number?!’ He was even more surprised when I later ran into him again and told him I was marrying the girl from the dog park.”
After getting married, Ashlynne’s career as a Physical Therapist took them to Chattanooga, TN. The idea of Travel Physical Therapy work appealed to them both. Ashlynne could take contracts all over the country, combining her career with their love for travel. However, Kellen faced a challenge—what would he do for work?
Kellen quickly began exploring remote employment options, long before it became socially acceptable and trendy—years before the pandemic. He found an opportunity with ApricotLaw that seemed too good to be true. Despite questionable qualifications for the job, Kellen secured the position. He began his career at ApricotLaw in sales as a Website Analyst.
Ashlynne and Kellen spent years traveling the country and the world. While Ashlynne worked as a traveling Physical Therapist, Kellen worked remotely for ApricotLaw. This lifestyle allowed them to live in Connecticut, Washington, Alaska, Montana, Colorado, and Tennessee. Alaska remains their favorite, and they often summer there, daydreaming about buying property in “The Last Frontier.”
Kellen grew within the company, holding multiple positions across departments. He found the most fulfillment working directly with clients to help them achieve their goals. As ApricotLaw’s client liaison for many years, Kellen deeply enjoys his role.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a decline in Travel Physical Therapy jobs, prompting Ashlynne and Kellen to settle in her hometown of Huntsville, AL, where they bought a house. Soon after, they welcomed their son, Reid, into the world. Reid now calls all the shots, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
As a Partner at ApricotLaw, Kellen helps make big-picture decisions for the company and wears many hats. Though he stays busy with work and family, he escapes to the great outdoors at every opportunity to hike, camp, fish, and run.
